Roam
Sometimes the food is the reason to go.
Vegan travel is not only about getting through the menu. Some places are worth choosing because the markets, staples, restaurants, and food culture make eating the trip itself.

A destination can feed you before you arrive.
Some places are easier because their ordinary food already gives you a strong base: lentils, beans, rice, breads, vegetables, fruit, chickpeas, tofu, noodles, sauces, pickles, oils, herbs, spices, and market culture.
A food trip does not require a fully vegan city. It requires enough naturally plant-based food, enough places that understand the request, and enough good food that the food becomes part of the reason to travel.
The test is not whether one restaurant looks spectacular online. The test is whether the trip still works if that restaurant is closed, booked, too far away, or not as good as the photo made it seem.
Specific city and restaurant recommendations should live in dated blog posts. This page is the evergreen standard for choosing the kind of destination that works well for a vegan traveler.
Do not build a whole trip on one meal.
A single famous reservation can be a good reason to get excited, but it is not a food plan. Build the trip around layers: a few restaurants, a neighborhood with options, markets or groceries, casual staples, and one backup you can use when everyone is tired.
The best food trips leave room for good meals and small problems. You want the special dinner, but you also want the late lunch, the easy breakfast, the snack between museums, and the plain meal that rescues the day.
The food-trip test.
Use this before choosing a trip around eating.
Staple cuisine
Does the local food culture already include satisfying plant-based staples, or will every meal require explanation?
Market life
Are markets, bakeries, fruit stalls, street food, grocery shops, and simple staples easy to access from where you will actually stay?
Restaurant depth
Are there enough options across neighborhoods and price points, not just one famous vegan restaurant or one perfect-looking tasting menu?
Backup density
If the planned meal fails, can you still find a decent plate without crossing the whole city or turning dinner into homework?
Language and modification
Can you explain the no-meat, no-fish, no-egg, no-dairy request clearly enough to avoid hidden ingredients?
Trip rhythm
Will the food work on arrival day, travel days, late nights, excursions, and low-energy days?

Look closer
The best food destination has layers.
A great vegan travel place gives you more than one good meal. It gives you markets, staples, snacks, restaurants, backup plans, and the sense that eating belongs to the trip instead of interrupting it.
